?uestlove (born Ahmir Khalib Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is the drummer, producer and arranger for the Roots. His father was Lee Andrews of Lee Andrews & the Hearts (a 50s doo wop group.)

He attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative Performing Arts (C.A.P.A.) where he met Black Thought in 1987. He was a contemporary of Boyz II Men, jazz bassist Christian McBride and jazz organist Joey Defrancesco at Philadelphia High School.
