/Xam language

(Redirected from Xam language)

/Xam is an extinct Khoisan language of South Africa, part of the !Kwi language group. Its SIL code is XAM.

It is used for the South African motto adopted on 27 April 2000: !ke e: /xarra //ke. It means something like diverse people unite or on a collective scale Unity in Diversity. Much of the scholarly work done with the /Xam language was performed by Dr. W. H. I. Bleek, a German linguist of the 19th century.
