• Eight competitive sports were organised: athletics, basketball, boxing, football, shooting, swimming, weightlifting, and wrestling
• Sports dropped from Second Asian Games: cycling
• Sports added: boxing, shooting and wrestling

The top three winners were: Japan, the Philippines and Korea
