Alan McCombes (born 1955) is one of the leading members of the Scottish Socialist Party.
He was a member of the Militant Tendency before the decision to cease entrism and establish a separate party. In the 1990s he was active in uniting the far left in Scotland, firstly in the Scottish Socialist Alliance, then in the Scottish Socialist Party. He worked as editor of Scottish Socialist Voice until 2003, and co-authored the book Imagine with Tommy Sheridan which outlines the principles of the SSP.
McCombes remains the policy co-ordinator for the SSP. He announced his candidacy for the SSP leadership on January 19, 2005. At the party conference on February 13, he won 154 votes from SSP delegates, losing by 98 to Colin Fox.
