Alboraia

Alboraia is a town very close to the city of Valencia, Spain.

Originally a farming community, Alboraia has grown in the last decades following the development of the metropolitan area of Valencia. Better communications (including a terminal station of the new Valencia metro system [1]), urban exodus from the city and foreign inmigration have increased population up to 16,211 (2002 census).

Traditional crops are based on irrigated, intensive farming. Specially important are the tiger nuts (Spanish: Chufas; Valencian: Xufes), which are used to produce the worldwide famous horchata, a popular refreshment. The town is actually full of orxateries - bars to relax and chill out while having an horchata in the hot Valencian summers.
