Alexander Alexandrovitch Arkhangelski

Alexander Alexandrovitch Arkhangelski (1892-1978) was an aircraft designer, doctor of technical sciences.

He have graduated MVTU (1918). During his studies he worked at aerodynamic laboratory headed by Zhukovskii. He worked at TsAGI in 1918-36. He have designed and build several aerosleds ARBES along with B.S.Stechkin. After establishment of aircraft design bureau of A.N.Tupolev at TsAGI, he participated all ANT designs. In 1932 he was appointed a chief of the department of hight speed aircrafts. He was the leading designer of the first Soviet bomber ANT-40 (SB) and its transport development PS-35. Since 1936 he was chief of the bureau and responsible for large scale production of SB. Chief designer of Ar-2. Arhangelskii OKB rejoins Tupolev OKB in 1941. Since 1947 he was the first deputy chief designer.
