Alexander Ivanov (1806 - 1858) was a Russian painter who has become increasingly notable with the end of communism and opening of the "iron curtain".

He spent much of his life in Rome where he was influenced by the Nazarenes. Much of his work is of religious subjects, his magnum opus being The Appearance of Christ before the People. Some of his most notable works can be viewed at the Russian Museum (in person or online).

Alexander Ivanov (born May 1, 1956) is a chess Grandmaster who lives in and represents the United States of America. He was joint US Champion in 1995 (with Nick de Firmian and Patrick Wolff ). In the April 2004 FIDE list, Ivanov had an Elo rating of 2544, making him joint nineteenth in America.
