Alicia Bridges

Alicia Bridges is an American singer.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Bridges worked as a singer and songwriter during the 1970s and secured a recording contract with Polydor Records. Her 1978 disco single "I Love the Nightlife (Disco Round)" reached number five on the U.S. charts several months after its release. (It actually had not been intended for single release until discos throughout the United States began playing it.) Ultimately it became a worldwide hit. This unanticipated success presented Polydor with a challenge in marketing Bridges—she was not primarily a disco artist, nor was she interested in becoming one, and "I Love the Nightlife" was not indicative of her style. Her next single, "Body Heat", was a departure from the disco sound, and presented Bridges in a more hard-edged, abrasive light. Despite a general consensus among critics that it was a stronger single, it failed to chart. Several albums followed including a critically acclaimed 1979 album Play It As It Lays , but Bridges simply did not deliver the disco material her public expected from her. She faded from public view and came to be regarded as a one-hit wonder.

Bridges' only other hit single charted in 1994, after a Rapino Brothers remix of the song was featured in the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
