Americans for Democratic Action

Americans for Democratic Action (usually called ADA) is a political organization advocating liberal policies. It was founded in 1947. The group is a major supporter of the Democratic Party.

The Americans for Democratic Action is an organizational member of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, which advocates gun control.

The ADA is well-known for its rankings of legislators; it tracks how members of Congress vote on what it considers key issues, and gives ratings, with 0 being complete disagreement with the group, and 100 agreeing completely. These scores are often used as a quick indicator of how liberal a politician is, and are the counterpart of the rankings done by the American Conservative Union.
