Anihilated (band)

Anihilated began life in the early 1980’s as a punk group called Prospex in Ipswich, UK. The line up was Andy, Si Cobb , Lee Hitman and Paul "Bod" Rodwell . They recorded their first Demo after a series of local gigs, however, they parted with their singer, Andy, part way through the recording, and Si, whose more gravelly voice the band considered more suitable, took over the vocals . Just as the Demo was completed they decided to add another guitarist.

Mark Beuchet guitarist with Punk band Poison, who had done some gigs with Anihilated, was asked to join the band. Mark had a more riffy style of playing which appealed particularly to Si and Bod.

The changeover from punk to thrash was gradual but in 1986 they released their first EP, Path To Destruction which was a classic example of a raw punk/Metal crossover . Around this time Slayer, Metallica and Anthrax were making a name for themselves, and they had a big influence on Anihilated. The band stuck to their Punk ideals and their anti nuclear , anti blood sports beliefs were reflected their lyrics.

Anihilated signed to Endangered musik and recorded their first album ‘Created In Hate’, which was described at the time as ‘The most important UK thrash release to date’ by Metal Forces magazine . Unfortunately the album was blighted by a poor sound and mix. The band played gigs up and down the country but a full tour never materialised.

Anihilated severed links with Endangered Musik and signed for Metalworks , and they went into the studio to record their second album The Ultimate Desecration in early 1989.
The band were promised tours of the UK and Germany, and endorsement deals with Laney and BC Rich. Things were looking good, however there was a delay on the album reaching the shops. The album was advertised and reviewed but no one could get it. When it finally came out the moment was lost.
Anihilated arranged a handful of gigs and the album was selling well, but the band were doing less and less and Metalworks seemed to disappear into thin air.

At the beginning of 1990 Mark left to concentrate on a new project, one that would ultimately see him team up with Bod for several more years. Lee was the next to leave, he gave up music completely. Both were replaced and Anihilated started writing for their third album, to be titled Carnival of souls'. This was never completed though and the band broke up completely.

Bod went on to join up with Marks band Love lies bleeding , and then went on to form Crowroad , a three piece rock band who are still around at the time of writing (Feb 2005). Si formed Nightbreed, which included one time Cradle of Filth bassist Rob Eaglestone . This was short lived however and Si went on to help other local bands in various ways.

The members of Anihilated have remained friends over the years and all of them have good memories of their time with the band.

A worldwide interest in the band has continued since the demise of Anihilated in the early 1990's, so much so that even with no releases in over 10 years they have still been giving interviews with magazines and on-line mags, and have now created an official website anihiliated official site
