Anton Reicha

Anton (or Antonin or Antoine) Reicha (Prague, February 26, 1770Paris, May 28, 1836) was a Bohemian composer and theorist. He is best known today for his substantial early contribution to the wind quintet literature, twenty-four quintets and individual movements in all, but wrote for many other musical ensembles as well, including at least three symphonies, piano music including a set of thirty-six fugues, a clarinet quintet, string quintets and a string quartet, the latter given probably its first performance since the 19th century a few years ago. Some of Reicha's wind quintets are today in the regular repertoire (all have been recorded).
