Ari Buddhism

Ari Buddhism is the name given to the religious practice common in Pagan, Myanmar prior to Anawrahta's rise and the subsequent conversion of Pagan to Theravada Buddhism.

It was a mixture of Mahayana Buddhism, Brahmanism and native religion. Some scholars are said to have claimed that it was a branch of Tantrism related to the Asarya Buddhism of Nanzhao and the subsequent Kingdom of Dali in neighbouring Yunnan, China.
