Asa Dotzler, born in Tennessee on June 5, 1974, is best known for his work on Mozilla. In addition to being the QA lead, including community quality advocate for the project, Dotzler is also the Firefox & Thunderbird product release manager. He joined mozilla.org to turbo-charge their quality programs and to further develop their volunteer QA and testing community. When he's not helping new contributors test Mozilla and report bugs he's working with drivers@mozilla.org to define requirements for and ship Mozilla product releases.
He started work in Mountain View, California on the cross-platform Mozilla web browser as an employee of Netscape Communications Corporation division of AOL/Time Warner in May 2000. He came to AOL/Netscape after working on Mozilla as a volunteer for over a year while living in Austin, Texas. Dotzler moved to Austin in 1997 after meeting his spouse, Deanna Pierce. When AOL shut down the Netscape browser unit in July 2003, Dotzler carried on working for the Mozilla Foundation which released Mozilla Firefox 1.0 web browser in November 2004 and Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0, an email and usenet client in December 2004.
Dotzler maintains an active weblog with an emphasis on Mozilla development and news. Other topics include the Exploration of Mars and other astronomy, general technology news, and his pet cat, Ptolemy, a female so named for her feline-centric view of the universe (after Claudius Ptolemaeus and his geocentric theory).
