Ataegina

Ataegina (Portuguese: Atégina) was the Goddess of rebirth (Spring), nature and cure Lusitanian mythology. She is also seen as the Lusitanian goddess of the moon.

The consacrated animal of Ataegina was the goat. She had a devotio cult, where someone invoce the goddess to curse someone, occasionally curse someone to death.

She was venerated in Lusitania and Betica, there were sanctuaries dedicated to Ataegina in Mérida, Elvas, and Carceres along with other places, especially near the Guadiana river .

Several inscriptions relate this goddess with Proserpina: ATAEGINA TURIBRIGENSIS PROSERPINA, this relation occured during the Roman period.
