Australian referendum, 1984 (Interchange of Powers)

The constitution places some restraints on the ability of the states and the federal governments to freely cooperate. Constitution Alteration (Interchange of Powers) 1984 proposed that these constitutional bounds be removed, such that the states and the federal government could freely interchange powers at will. The proposal was put to a referendum in the Australian referendum, 1984.
