Automotive software

Automotive software is software embedded within automobiles. Automobiles are some of the most software intensive devices in existence. On-board software-driven systems include:

  • Engine control units (ECUs), which control fuel injection depending on load, temperature, etc, to improve efficiency and minimize pollution.
  • Brake controllers , which prevent brakes from locking, by pumping when the tires lose traction.
  • Stability controllers, which apply differential braking to reduce or control a skid in response to driver steering.
  • Environmental controllers , which adjust seat position, ventilation, raise/lower windows, communicate with satellites in emergencies, radios, etc.
