Azimuth

Azimuth is the horizontal component of a direction (compass direction), measured around the horizon from the North point, toward the East, i.e. clockwise. It is usually measured in degrees.

North 0° or 360°
East 90°
South 180°
West 270°

In the horizontal coordinate system (also used in celestial navigation) azimuth is one of the two coordinates. The other is altitude (elevation above the horizon).

In radio astronomy azimuth refers to the position that an antenna must be pointed to receive a satellite signal. In aviation, azimuth is used to determine headings or the direction in which to fly.

For satellite dish installation the azimuth refers to the direction (left or right) to which the dish should point. There is also need for elevation which represents the heading direction angle with a suppose flat or level ground.
