Battle of Yamen

On March 19 1279, Chinese general Zhang Hongfan of the Yuan Dynasty annihilated the last fleet of the Southern Song Dynasty at Yamen, (today Xinhui County, Guangdong Province).

As a consequence, a high official Lu Xiufu is said to have taken the boy emperor Emperor Bing of Song China (Song Di Bing) in his arms and jumped from a clifftop into the sea, drowning both of them. Zhang Shijie , commander of the Song fleet, escaped from the scene but was later drowned when his ship was brought down in a storm.

This ended the Song Dynasty.
