Battus

In Greek mythology, Battus is the name of two different people.

  1. Son of Polymnestus, founded Cyrene, thus fulfilling a prophecy given to his ancestor, Euphemus.
  2. A shepherd from Pylos, Battus witnessed Hermes stealing Apollo's cattle. Though he promised his silence, he told many others. Hermes turned him to stone.

Battus was also the name of several Kings of Cyrene
