History

Originally the college was known as Bradford and Ilkley Community College, with campuses in both Bradford and Ilkley, however the latter campus has since been closed and the name changed. It is located next to the University of Bradford to which it is an associate college - its degrees are validated by the university. In 2003, the university and college formally announced the decision to merge to become a combined institution, however later that year the merger was called off. Since then the relationship between the two institutions has become somewhat strained as the university has introduced a number of courses which compete directly with those offered by the college. It is now looking at associating more closely with Leeds Metropolitan University for validation of some of its courses.

Recent years have seen walk-outs by staff in protest against pay and conditions, and in 2005 the colleged announced that 120 compulsory staff redundancies would have to made.
