Brett Lee

Brett Lee (born November 8, 1976 in New South Wales) is an Australian cricketer. He is an express bowler. At his fastest he is capable of bowling 160 km/h. However, he normally bowls at speeds of around 150 km/h. He competes with Shoaib Akhtar for the title of 'world's fastest bowler'. His armoury includes an outswinger, a yorker, an off cutter and a slower ball. He pulls off the occasional stunning catch in the field and can also punish one-day international bowlers with the bat (as a strike rate of around 80 suggests).

Major accomplishments:

  • Took a one-day international hat-trick against Kenya on March 15, 2003 (Kennedy Otieno , Brijal Patel and David Obuya )
  • Taking 100 wickets in both test cricket and one-day international cricket

Lee has recently been plagued with injuries and poor form (including an infamous bowling performance against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground) and has lost his Australian position to Michael Kasprowicz. However, his recent one day bowling against New Zealand has demonstrated that he has not lost any of his pace and has in fact gained more control over his deliveries. As a result, his return to Test cricket is eagerly expected and analysts are debating his merits versus those of the incumbent Kasprowicz
