Brownstone

Brownstone is a brown stone historically quarried from New Jersey, and specifically rowhouses in the New York City area clad in it. More modern brownstones are not actually made from New Jersey brownstone.

Brownstones tend to be found in certain older neighborhoods, which are perhaps most common in Brooklyn. Many brownstones have been renovated in recent years, leading to gentrification in areas like Park Slope and Fort Greene.
