Calico Early Man Archaeological Site is 15 miles NE of Barstow, California. Over 12,000 stone tools dating back possibly 200,000 years, makes this one of the oldest such sites in the Western Hemisphere. Dr. Louis Leakey began excavation here in 1964. Today there are tours, active digs, and exhibits.
