During the history of Hungary, the country has had more capitals. These were:

Capitals of the country were:

Székesfehérvár and Esztergom from around 1000 until 1361, but the function of a capital was not that clear as it is today
Buda 1361-1541
Pozsony 1541-1848 for the Kingdom of Hungary, and Gyulafehérvár for the independent Transylvania 1541-1699.
Buda again 1848-1873, but the country was part of Austria from 1849 till 1867, so the true capital was Vienna (Bécs).
Budapest 1873-
