Carmagnole

The "Carmagnole" was an anonymous song and dance popular during the Reign of Terror which took place during the French Revolution. Supporting the Red Republican cause put forth by the rebels of the time, it was widely popular and criticized the King and Queen of the time, Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette. It is said that the song was introduced by troops returning from Italy during the French Revolution. Mention in A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
