A mansion is any very large house, often at the centre of an estate. In Europe, the title includes any dwelling from a large farm-house or grange to a palace built between the middle ages and the present time. In the U.S.A, the term mansion tends to be applied to houses built on a smaller scale than those to which the term applies in Europe. That said, some 'mansions' in the U.S.A. are very large indeed.
