Charles William Dorsett

Charles William Dorsett (28 September 18501936) ran for Governor of Minnesota on the ticket of the Prohibition Party, but was unsuccessful. Dorsett was born on 28 September 1850 in Sinclairville, Chautauqua County, New York, the son of Daniel Brewster Dorsett and Harriet Fox Preston. He married Martha A. Angle on 29 June 1876. He died in 1936 at Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is buried at the Lakeview Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Professional

Dorsett was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 1877. His wife, Martha, was initially denied admission on the grounds of her gender, but successfully petitioned the state legislature for amendment of the law that barred her. Both later abandoned the practice of law, and instead ran a catering business and ice cream shop. Dorsett ran twice for Governor of Minnesota on the ticket of the Prohibition Party, but was unsuccessful.
