Chess-type problems use

• the standard chessboard or a variation of the standard chessboard
• some or all of the chess pieces
• some or all of the rules of chess

However, chess-type problems may contain board setups that do not occur in an ordinary chess game.

Many of these problems are now available as puzzles one can solve on the computer.
