Community of Agglomeration of Greater Toulouse

The Community of Agglomeration of Greater Toulouse (French: Communauté d'agglomération du Grand Toulouse), also simply known as Grand Toulouse (i.e. "Greater Toulouse"), is the intercommunal structure gathering the city of Toulouse (France) and some of its suburbs. It succeeds a previous District which had been created in 1992 with less powers than the current Community of Agglomeration.

Due to local political feuds, the Community of Agglomeration of Greater Toulouse only hosts 61% of the population of the metropolitan area (see infobox at Toulouse article for the metropolitan area) , the other independent communes of the metropolitan area having refused to join in, notably Muret and the technopolis of Labège-Innopole .

Consequently, the other parts of the metropolitan area have formed different intercommunal structures, such as:

  • Community of Agglomeration of the Muret Area (Communauté d'agglomération du Muretain): 59,348 inhabitants
  • Community of Agglomeration of the Sicoval (Communauté d'agglomération du Sicoval): 57,848 inhabitants, with Labège-Innopole in it
  • Community of Communes from the Save to the Touch (Communauté de communes de la Save au Touch): 29,284 inhabitants
  • etc.
