Connachta

The Connachta were a group of dynasties who claimed descent from the three eldest sons of Eochaid Mugmedon: Brion, Ailill and Fiachrae. They took their collective name from their alleged descent from Conn Cetchathach (Conn of the Hundred Battles). Their younger brother, Niall Noigiallach was ancestor to the Ui Néill. It is from them that the province of Connacht in the west of Ireland takes its name.

The descendants of Brion were known as the Ui Briuin , and their off-shoots included the Ui Briuin Ai , Ui Briuin Breifne , Ui Briuin Seola .

The descendants of Fiachrae were known as the Ui Fiachrach, and their off-shoots included the Ui Fiachrach Aidhne, Ui Fiachrach Muaide , Tir nAmalgado .

The descendants of Ailill were known as the Tir nAilello , but faded into obscurity.
