Creation Records

(Redirected from Creation (record label))

At least two different record labels called Creation Records have existed.

The oldest label was formed by Robert Stigwood in 1967, but soon faded away in favour of RSO Records.

The most recent, and perhaps more famous, is a British indie record label headed by Alan McGee, lasting from 1984 to 1999. From the early 1990s on, however, its 'independent' status was severely compromised, since financial difficulties forced it into partnership with Sony.

During its existence it had on its books some of the most important acts in British indie music, including the Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Slowdive, The House Of Love , Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream, Oasis and the Super Furry Animals. It also launched subsidiary Rev-ola Records for spoken words recordings.

Since the dissolution of Creation Records in 1999 McGee has been running the Poptones label, which has seen a return to the staunchly independent roots of Creation. Most notably, Poptones launched the career of The Hives in the UK.
