Jabotabek is the term given to the metropolitan area surrounding Jakarta, Indonesia. The population in 2004 is estimated to be 16.5 million. The area consists of the special administrative region of Jakarta and the satellite cities of Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi . The population breakdown is roughly 9 million in Jakarta, 3.5 million in the Bekasi region, 3.2 million in Tangerang, and 800,000 in Bogor.
Projected Growth
The government of Indonesia projects that the population of the Jabotabek region will reach 32 million by 2016. These statistics project Jakarta will grow to 12 million while the other cities will have a combined population of 20 million.
