Damnation is Opeth's seventh album, released in April 2003, following the release of their sister album Deliverance the year before. The album was a radical departure from their usual melodic death metal styles and into the much softer, 1970s progressive rock genre. The album gained critical acclaim and was a major boost for their popularity which saw the release of Lamentations on DVD in 2004.
