Daniel Owen

Daniel Owen (October 20, 1836 - October 22, 1895), was a Welsh novelist.

He was born in Mold, Flintshire, and apprenticed to a tailor, then trained unsuccessfully for the ministry before returning to the tailoring business.

He was the first major novelist in the Welsh language, his best-known works being:

  • Y Dreflan (1881)
  • Rhys Lewis (1885)
  • Enoc Huws (1891)
  • Gwen Tomos (1894)
