The Declaration of Colonial Rights was a set of resolutions adopted by the First Continental Congress on October 14, 1774 to
- "...state the rights of the Colonies in general, the several instances in which these rights are violated or infringed, and the means most proper to be pursued for obtaining a restoration of them." (Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774-1789 — Washington, 1904).
The first draft of this declaration was written by Major John Sullivan, delegate from New Hampshire. The document has also known by the names Declaration of Rights and Declaration of Rights and Grievances
