documenta 5 is the name of the documenta exhibition of 1972. It is the documenta which is believed to have had the highest impact onto modern arts from all the documenta exhibitions that took place. Harald Szeemann, the artistic director, tried to have a high impact on society with this exhibition, as a consequence of this, socially active artists like Joseph Beuys tried to interact with the visitors of the exhibition. Also, the exhibition tried to ask the question what art is and consequently also portrayed trivial art like kitsch.
