King of Northumbria from 810 - 840, Eanred was Son of Eardwulf .

By 829, Egbert of Wessex, had already conquered Mercia and, according to the Anglo Saxon Chronicle, ". . . led an army against the Northumbrians as far as Dore" (now a suburb of Sheffield), "where they met him, and offered terms of obedience and subjection, on the acceptance of which they returned home." (Though, contrary to what is currently accepted, the event is placed alongside the year 827 by the 'Chronicle'). In 840, Eanred (also cited as Andred, in some of the literature), still reigning as king of the Northumbrians, died, and was succeeded by his son Athelred (Æthelred), who reigned for seven years."
