Europe of Democracies and Diversities

Europe of Democracies and Diversities was a euro-sceptic political group with seats in the European Parliament between 1999 and 2004. Following the elections in 2004, the group transformed itself into a new group, Independence and Democracy.

The newspaper European Voice reported on June 24, 2004 that Sweden's Junilistan, the pro-life League of Polish Families, and the French Combats Souverainistes will join the Europe of Democracies and Diversities group, which already includes the United Kingdom Independence Party. They are also in informal talks with MEPs from other parties such as Self-Defense of the Polish Republic, the Czech Civic Democratic Party and even the British Conservative Party (in the European Democrats subgroup up to 2004). On July 20, having gathered 32 MEPs, it registered with the Parliament under the new name Independence and Democracy.
