European route E4 passes through Finland, Sweden and Denmark. It begins in Kemi in northern Finland, then goes south along the Gulf of Bothnia to Gävle, then on a more inland route southwards. It ends in Elsinore in Denmark after having crossed Öresund by ferry. In the new system of European routes, its official name is E55, but it remains signed E4 within Sweden and Finland. It is however signed E55 from Elsinore and further south.
