Explosions in the Sky is an American post-rock band. Members are Munaf Ryanai (guitar), Mark Smith (guitar), Michael James (bass) and Chris Hrasky (drums). The band is currently signed to Temporary Residence Limited , who signed the band on the strength of its demo after only half a listen.
History
Explosions in the Sky was formed in Midland, Texas, in 2000. They've quickly gained a reputation for themselves among other established local bands such as Lift To Experience .
After the release of their first full length album 'Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die / Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever' the band garnered a small amount of media attention as the liner notes of the album contained a picture of an airplane and the text "This Plane Will Crash Tomorrow". Many sources claim the album was released on September 4th, 2001, a week before the tragic events of 9/11, but in an interview published in Skyscraper Magazine in the spring of 2004 reveals that the album was officially released in August of 2001. Members of the band even went so far as to tell the magazine that they had the artwork and idea for the liner notes for over a year before the attacks on the World Trade Center.
