The Florida Territory was a historic organized territory of the United States from 1822 to 1845. The land was acquired from Spain at a cost of $5 million in the Adams-Onís Treaty. The ceremonies of transfer took place on July 17, 1821 in Pensacola. The United States merged East Florida and West Florida into Florida Territory on March 30, 1822. The act approving Florida as the 27th state was passed on March 3, 1845.
