Fort Jackson is a United States Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) base located in South Carolina.
Jackson is one of two basic training facilities that allows females to participate. It is commonly known as "Relaxin' Jackson" from its reputation as not being as harsh as other training facilities, but that is left to the opinion of the soldiers training there.
It also has a Drill Sergeant school and a Cooks School. The Drill Sergeant school is located close to the Fitness Training Unit (FTU, also known secretly as "Fat Camp"), a place for soldiers who couldn't pass the initial fitness test, a Base Exchange (BX), the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Platoon (PTRP), a place for injured soldiers hurt in BCT to recover from their injuries so they can return to training, a Dinning Facility (DFAC), a Church, a Battalion headquarters, and three barracks used for holding soldiers before they are shipped to their respective training units. This location is the first and last place they see on base. The main hospital is Moncrief Army Hospital with a medical clinic and a dental clinic close by.
In 1994, the film "Renaissance Man" starring Danny DeVito was shot on location there and one scene shows Victory Tower , one of the training tools used by the Army to build confidence in the cadets.
