The Fort Worth Tornado occurred on March 28, 2000. It is one of a select few tornadoes that occurred at the tail end of the 20th century, even though it was not quite as strong as its predecessors. It was still the most notable tornado of 2000.
The tornado passed through the west side of Fort Worth, Texas at around 6:00 P.M. It tore a 3-mile path through the city blowing out windows in many of the highrises downtown. The tornado was approximately one-quarter of a mile wide. It was F2 on the Fujita scale. Five people were killed and over 100 were injured, only three critically.
The heavy rain and hail that followed the tornado damaged many interior areas that actually survived the F2 winds. Another tornado hit in the Arlington area.
This is not the first time the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex has been hit by a tornado. Another notable tornado hit Dallas on April 2, 1957. That tornado was among the most photogenic tornadoes of the 20th century. It killed 10 people.
