Francis Richard Plunkett


Sir Francis Richard Plunkett (1835-1907) was born on February 3, 1835 at Corbalton Hall in County Meath, Ireland. In 1873 he was nominated as Secretary of Legation in Tokyo under Sir Harry Parkes. He left Tokyo in 1876 and served as Diplomatic Secretary in St Petersburg, Constantinople and Paris before being appointed Sir Harry Parkes's successor. He was Minister in Tokyo, 1884-87 and was made a KCMG while in Tokyo. In 1900 he was appointed Ambassador at Vienna and made a Privy Councillor. He retired in 1905 and died in Paris in 1907.
