Frankia

Frankia alni
The Frankia are a genera of nitrogen fixing filamentous bacteria that live in symbiosis with some plants, similar to rhizobia. Frankia also form root nodules.

Actinorhizal plants are classified in eight families.. They are a diverse group of mostly woody dicots found on all continents except for Antarctica. Many are common plants, like alder, bayberry , sweet fern , Dryas mats , Chamaebatia and Coriaria .
