Frankie Dettori

Frankie Dettori, born Lanfranco Dettori is a Italian jockey and celebrity. Born on December 15, 1970 in Milan, the son of Gianfranco, another jockey.


He had an apprenticeship with trainer Luca Cumani in Newmarket in 1985 and soon became stable jockey. In 1990 he rode 100 winners and further success followed, with numerous winners in Class I races. On September 28, 1996 he achieved the feat of winning all seven races in a single meeting at Ascot. On December 29, 2000 he received an honorary MBE.

His main trainer is Godolphin. Dettori is known for his trademark flying dismounts.

He is also a resident team captain on the BBC quiz A Question Of Sport.
