František Kupka (September 23, 1891 - June 24, 1957) was a Czech painter. He was born in Opocno in eastern Bohemia. He studied at the Prague Art Academy , Akademie der Bildenden Küste in Vienna, Académie Julian in Paris and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Kupka's contribution to the early phases of the abstract movement is increasingly being recognized.
