The Galway Races is a Horse-racing festival that takes place for a week starting on the last Monday in July. The races are held at Ballybrit race course in Galway, Ireland.
The main days of the festival are on the Wednesday, when the Galway Plate is held and the Thursday when the Galway Hurdle takes place. The festival is important to the local economy as it draws large crowds. Many businesses not in the tourist industry close in Galway during the festival.
Race meetings also take place in September and October, but these are nowhere near as popular as the summer festival.
