The Gibraltar pound (ISO 4217 currency code: GIP) is often quoted as the currency of Gibraltar. It is pegged 1:1 to the pound sterling of the United Kingdom, however, in practice notes issued by the Government of Gibraltar and in common use are Sterling. In spite of this, banks in the UK charge commission on Gibraltar banknotes changed for UK ones, or make a small deduction when these are paid into a UK bank account.
