Government of England

England ceased to exist as a separate kingdom with its own national government in 1707, when the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland merged to form the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Though the United Kingdom, which itself replaced the Kingdom of Great Britain following a later merger with the Kingdom of Ireland in 1801, has undergone a series of dramatic innovations in the manner in which its regions and nations are governed, with devolved parliaments or assemblies and governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, no devolved administration has to date been created for England, which remains under the jurisdiction on all matters of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and Her Majesty's Government of the United Kingdom.

The country is divided into the following - the 9 English regions, the modern day local authority areas and the traditional counties of England.
